00:00Roads of carefully planted flowers and colourful displays full of meaningful messages have transformed the East Lawn at Sefton Park
00:08Palm House.
00:09For the first time, the historic venue is hosting a collection of community-created show gardens, bringing together 10 organisations
00:17from right across the Liverpool City region.
00:19Well, our beautiful Woodlands garden is a collaboration between our volunteers, our service users, our families, and the theme of
00:30what we wanted to do was our Forget Me Not campaign.
00:33So our beautiful flowers, as you can see in the garden, are shining through, and each one has been dedicated
00:42to a loved one who has been lost with us.
00:44This project forms part of celebrations marking 25 years since the Palm House reopened following major renovations.
00:52We've got some garden lates coming up in the summer, so we've got staying open late on a Sunday evening,
00:57some lovely music and, you know, nice food and drink in the summer months, make the most of the gorgeous
01:03Palm House in Sefton Park.
01:06And then in the autumn, we've got our Palm House Festival, so we're part of Heritage Open Days, we've got
01:11a series of brilliant botanical talks.
01:14Our exhibition that's currently at Central Library is going to come back to the Palm House in September, so there's
01:20a lot to look forward to for the rest of the year.
01:22These gardens have been designed around themes including education, health and wellbeing, environmental action and community growing.
01:29Our group who've been litter picking in Sefton Park for nearly 10 years now, and the types of litter that
01:35we see every time we go out.
01:37It's a message really, so it's not like the shiny gardens that are all gorgeous here and everything, it's a
01:43message to say litter exists, it's never going to go away, or maybe it will one day.
01:49But it's about kind of promoting our litter picks that are every last Sunday of the month, 11 till half
01:5412, we meet at the cafe by Eros, all kit provided.
01:58Each plot measures two by three metres and has been created by children, volunteers, service users and local residents.
02:06The gardens are intended not only to reflect the work of the organisations behind them, but also wider themes of
02:14hope, collaboration, remembrance, recovery and resilience.
02:19I've got to say, when I turned up, with predominantly pink fingers rather than green fingers, I've got to say,
02:26and I only had some soil, a pair of scissors and bags full of enthusiasm, I really did not know
02:33where this was going to turn out.
02:35But it's turned into this wonderful project that's really encompassed everything about Woodlands Hospice.
02:42The show gardens will remain on display for visitors until the 21st of June and form part of a wider
02:48programme of anniversary events celebrating both the Palm House reopening and its long-standing place at the heart of Sefton
02:57Park.
