00:00Are you a Wakefield resident or do you commute to the city?
00:05Perhaps you've lived here all of your life or recently moved into a Wakefield community.
00:10Well now, Wakefield residents have been asked what makes them proud of the city
00:14as part of a project to promote civic pride.
00:18The Wakefield in 50 Objects scheme aims to capture people's ideas
00:23about what makes Wakefield a great place in which to live, work or visit.
00:27The top nominations will be revealed by Wakefield's Civic Society
00:32at a special event later this year.
00:35One of the Society's aims is to promote public interest in the beauty, character and history of Wakefield
00:42and they want to gather lots of ideas from the public about what they like most about the city.
00:47The Society is asking people to submit up to five things that they like about Wakefield.
00:52Once the nominations are collected, a panel made up of Society committee members
00:57and others will create a list for the public to vote on.
01:01The Society acknowledges that it's easy to knock things and to talk Wakefield down,
01:06particularly on social media.
01:09But when the groups show people around, they often remark about how impressed they are
01:13with what the city has to offer.
01:16Nominations can be submitted up until the 30th of June
01:19and the top 50 will be revealed at Wakefield Exchange on the 16th of September
01:25as part of this year's Heritage Open Days.
