Kuomintang Chair Cheng Li-wun has arrived in Washington, DC for the most closely watched leg of her two-week US trip. On her first full day in the US capital, Cheng met with several members of Congress, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Brian Mast. Discussions focused on cross-strait relations, US-Taiwan ties and Taiwan's defense.

00:00Kuomintang Chair Zheng Liwen is now in Washington, D.C.
00:04On her first full day here, she's met with several high-ranking U.S. officials.
00:09On Wednesday, she met with at least five members of Congress, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Brian Mast.
00:14They discussed cross-strait relations, U.S.-Taiwan ties, and Taiwan's defense.
00:20Taiwan's Liberty Times is also reporting that Zheng met with a senior national security official at the Eisenhower Building near
00:27the White House,
00:28but Taiwan Plus did not see Zheng enter nor leave the building.
00:32Zheng's team has been quiet about her plans here in D.C.
00:35They have not as of yet released her daily schedule, nor have they disclosed any information about any meetings on
00:42her day of arrival.
00:44Previous KMT leaders have made similar trips to Washington, meeting with White House and State Department officials,
00:50as well as representatives from the American Institute in Taiwan.
00:53Zheng was not the only busy one on Capitol Hill.
00:57Taiwan's representative to the U.S., Alexander Yu, also met with at least four Congress members to expand economic ties
01:04with Taiwan.
01:05In meetings that Taiwan Plus has learned were unrelated to Zheng's trip.
01:09For Zheng's second full day here in Washington, D.C., she's expected to meet with more members of Congress and

01:17She'll also attend a banquet hosted by the local community at night.
