00:08according to Reuters. The ruling follows similar antitrust approvals from the U.S.
00:13Department of Justice and several other countries, including Australia, Germany,
00:17France, and Saudi Arabia. Both Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery release films in China,
00:22making the country's approval necessary to finalize the deal.
00:25China has become a shrinking revenue source for Hollywood as its domestic film industry has
00:30grown. Warner Bros. 2023 film Meg 2, The Trench, earned $53.3 million in China during its opening
00:39weekend. Paramount's 2022 blockbuster Top Gun Maverick was never released there amid U.S.-China tensions.
