00:00The Jewish community in London is divided.
00:03As Israel's military actions in the Middle East continue, rising anti-Semitism and violent
00:09attacks against Jews are deepening fear and concern.
00:12It makes people feel that they're being targeted simply because of their beliefs and it's just
00:21unfair and it's extremely hateful.
00:24The Golders Green District in North London has a strong Jewish presence.
00:28There have been several attacks in recent weeks and two men were stabbed.
00:33What's happened could have happened to anyone and we do need, we need more protection for
00:39everyone.
00:40At the same time, some members of the Jewish community are taking part in pro-Palestinian
00:44demonstrations.
00:45Rioter Natasha Walter is among the demonstrators, joining Holocaust survivors and their families.
00:51It's incredibly dangerous to see anti-Semitism growing again.
00:55But it is not anti-Semitic to call out the crimes of Israel and to stand in solidarity
01:02with Palestinians at the moment.
01:04Rabbi Mendel Cohen questions why Holocaust survivors and their families are protesting alongside
01:09pro-Palestinian groups, calling the demonstrations a threat.
01:13Nobody on the microphone or if you read the posts afterwards seem to be, they don't say, oh, we
01:18want Israel to be there, but please Israel, can we have a better peace with your neighbors?
01:22That's not what they say.
01:23They say from the river to the sea and Zionists are genocidal.
01:27Within the community, views range from skepticism toward pro-Palestinian demonstrations to criticism
01:32of the Israeli government.
01:34I have a solidarity with the idea of Israel and with many of the people, because I have
01:40friends who live there and who are very opposed to Netanyahu.
01:46But the actions of the government are, I don't know what word to use, dreadful.
