03:54Welcome to the return of the legendary Tomcat in one of its most capable, exciting and evolved forms, the DCS
04:01F-14B Upgrade.
04:04In its later years of service, the F-14 evolved and stepped beyond its original role as the Navy's fleet
04:11defender and long-range interceptor.
04:13It became something broader, a modernized multi-role fighter still capable of fleet defense and air superiority, but now equally
04:21at home delivering deep strikes with modern precision.
04:25And that is what we're bringing to the table with the F-14BU.
04:30Together with an upgrade into the digital age, we're bringing a slew of new features to the Tomcat family, ranging
04:37from improved gesture functionality, new effects, character customization options, in-game manual and bombing calculator, and much more.
04:47Plus, a free mid-life overhaul to the existing F-14A and B as well.
04:53So let's dive in.
04:55At the center of the new B-Upgrade experience are systems like the new VDIG-R and HUD.
05:00Replacing the older VDIG, the VDIG-R and HUD bring a far more capable, modern pilot interface to the front
05:08cockpit.
05:08More information, more clearly presented, and more of what the pilot needs placed directly on the glass, in just the
05:16coolest blend of digital and analog.
05:19In the backseat, you are now armed with the P-TID, a larger, more capable, programmable tactical information display that
05:27gives the crew a clearer and more flexible interface for managing sensors, navigation, targeting, and precision strike employment.
05:36Together with the Lantern, the P-TID helps turn the late-life Tomcat into what it became operationally, transitioning from
05:43an icon of the Cold War into a heavy-hitting, long-range, two-seat strike aircraft.
05:49Big screen TV, baby!
05:51This, of course, is perfect for the new munitions, including JDAMs such as the GBU-31, giving you one of
05:58the most capable precision strike platforms in the sim.
06:03The navigation system has also taken a major step forward.
06:07With an EGI-based navigation system, GPS support, and a new CDNU for navigation data input and output, long routes,
06:15complex strike profiles, and programmable mission planning become possible and faster as the entire navigation suite enters the era of
06:24modern warfare.
06:24And to help you plan your mission in the same way as real Tomcat pilots, we've added a comprehensive mission
06:30data loader system integrated directly with the mission editor, so you'll be able to prepare the aircraft before you ever
06:37enter the cockpit, with up to 12 flight plans.
06:40These can contain up to 50 waypoints each, countermeasure configuration, and other mission data loaded and ready.
06:47Just don't forget to insert the cartridge.
06:49The system changes and additions list is long and continues from here for the B upgrade.
06:55The defensive suite is now a more modern ALE-47, a programmable and integrated system that provides mission configurable programs.
07:04The ECMD is now better integrated, which enables PETID, repeat, and better ALR-67 integration, and not to mention the
07:13new fast tactical imaging system, allowing you to share images from one Tomcat to another, and more.
07:21Of course, all of this is packaged together with a set of new features, such as new pilot models with
07:28a next generation animation system, new effects, new models textures, and enhancements to Jester.
07:36The F-14 BU will receive fan-favorite improvements from Jester 2.0, including the new context button, bringing faster,
07:46contextual interaction with Jester, as well as Cue Jester, which lets you point things out on screens and displays to
07:53better communicate your intent.
07:54He, of course, also learned to use all of the new systems that are at his disposal now, and will
07:59have new capability to help navigate through a mission.
08:03But for the pilot, one of the most important changes is one you may feel before you see it.
08:09The analog AFCS gives way to the DFCS, the digital flight control system.
08:15DFCS does not turn the Tomcat into a modern fly-by-wire jet.
08:20At its core, it remains a Tomcat.
08:23Physical, powerful, and very much alive in your hands, rugged and raw.
08:28But it refines the aircraft's behavior in critical parts of the envelope, improving departure resistance, high angle of attack handling,
08:37roll response, spin resistance, and carrier approach characteristics,
08:42giving the late Tomcat sharper manners without taking away its soul.
08:48The feature list goes on, with quality-of-life additions like the in-game browser and manual, allowing you to
08:55read and reference the Tomcat's documentation directly from inside DCS, in both 2D and VR,
09:02including the Explain Me feature, which lets you press any button in the cockpit to directly and immediately learn about
09:09that system or switch.
09:10The grease pencil is here, now synchronized in multiplayer, and there's a new bombing calculator,
09:17new HUD gun camera video capture functionality with realistic effects, and plenty more to discover.
09:24But these improvements are not limited to the F-14 BU alone.
09:28We've taken this opportunity to upgrade the entire F-14 family, and we will bring many of these core improvements
09:37to the F-14 A and B.
09:39The manual, gun cameras, new animations and characters, effects, and more are all coming to the A and B for
09:48all existing owners for free.
09:50The F-14 A and B will also receive new, unique cockpit customization elements and remastered versions of some parts
09:59of the artwork.
10:01In short, the F-14 B upgrade is not only a new aircraft configuration, with the VDIG-R and a
10:08new HUD, PTID, JDAM, EGI, FTI, DFCS, ALE 47, modernized mission planning, improved defensive systems, a sharper late service cockpit,
10:22and a whole set of new content.
10:24It's essentially an entirely new module and aircraft. Beyond that, it's an opportunity for us to continue improving the Tonkat
10:32as a whole, whether you choose to go digital or not.
10:35We're also packing the F-14 BU chock full of new content, ranging from instant action missions, training, to the
10:43two major pillars of your BU experience in the form of two full campaigns.
10:47We will begin with Operation Reforger 3, a continuation of our previous campaign storyline, flyable on day one of release,
10:56and after the initial release, we will add a full tailor-made F-14 BU campaign by Baltic Dragon, known
11:03for his incredibly immersive and realistic campaigns built around the aircraft's modernized capabilities.
11:10The F-14 BU launches this summer and is now available for pre-order as an upgrade for existing owners
11:18or as a part of the Ultimate Edition, the definitive Heat Blur Tomcat package, which includes all variants if you've
11:25not strapped on a Tomcat previously.
