00:00The Browns piece, Tom, let me ask you this.
00:06Is there, because no one's offering it,
00:09is there a, or maybe you don't like the trade,
00:13is there a negative side to the Browns deal
00:17or is this just all positive?
00:20You know, it's positive in the sense that,
00:23you know, you get a younger player, you get some picks back.
00:26The negative side is the fan aspect.
00:29You traded away a franchise cornerstone, so to speak,
00:33that was, you know, loved by the fans.
00:36And now, I don't want to say it's like,
00:38oh, the Browns are punting on it,
00:40because we all knew Miles Garrett could have been amazing.
00:42He could have won another, you know,
00:43defensive player of the year in Cleveland.
00:45But the question is, like, to what end?
00:47He could have 30 sacks, he could set a record,
00:49but it's like, well, they're still going to miss the playoff.
00:51So if you can get a younger player back and assets,
00:54I think it's a solid trade for the Browns.
00:57But the negative aspect would come from the fans just not loving
01:00that you traded away a fan favorite.
01:01And that's obviously a very minor thing when it's all said and done.
01:05No, but it's a, you know, it's a fair angle.
01:08I think the interesting thing, though, Tom,
01:10is at least 50% was probably fine with moving on from Miles Garrett.
01:15Sure.
01:15It's my guess.
01:17You know, Miles Garrett went real NBA with this whole thing.
01:21Request a trade.
01:23Get paid a record-breaking contract.
01:24Just get traded to the next year, right?
01:27That's what he did.
01:28But he gave the Browns something in that year,
01:34which is the single-season sack record.
01:38And Browns fans, I think, enjoyed that run.
01:42And they, instead of having to hear that they squandered
01:46the career of Miles Garrett, right,
01:49they reached some high ceilings and saw him move on.
01:54And they reaped the benefits of it.
01:56I think if you were to offer up a devil's advocate to this trade,
02:01it's trading for Jared Verse,
02:06prioritizing the player instead of draft picks.
02:11Now, I actually like that they prioritized Jared Verse, quite frankly.
02:15I don't think the Browns should have prioritized L.A. Rams draft choices
02:23over ready-to-go Jared Verse,
02:25who, on his own right, is worth multiple first-round picks.
02:30I think they did a job well done there.
02:32But there is a lot of pressure on Jared Verse now
02:35to be a multi-time All-Pro, right?
02:38Like, that is what they,
02:41because that's the math on it, right?
02:43I think instead of two additional first-round picks, right,
02:48or something of the equivalent,
02:50I think that they got Jared Verse,
02:53and two first-round picks gets you an All-Pro level guy.
02:57But they got him young, cost-controlled.
02:59So, again, I really like the Verse angle here for Cleveland, Tom.
03:04And I think the only, like, devil's advocate
03:10that which I might believe is,
03:13did you allow the decision,
03:16these huge decisions to be made
03:19by a group of guys who may not be there long-term?
03:24I don't make that decision.
03:25And I'm not saying they need to run Andrew Barry
03:28or Todd Munkin out of town.
03:29Todd Munkin hasn't even coached a football game.
03:31But if the Browns live up to their numbers,
03:34they will be one of the four or five worst teams in football.
03:41And, again, and sometimes that leads to,
03:44even though it's like the plan, Tom,
03:47it leads to fire everybody.
03:50And that I would not like.
03:52I would not like the guys who were given the runway
03:55to orchestrate this stuff.
03:58It's why I didn't understand the Giants firing Dable.
04:00So, you let Dable pick a quarterback
04:02and then fired him in the middle of it.
04:03That's insane.
04:04Right?
04:04Joe, you know, at least I guess they kept Joe Shane.
04:08So, that would be, to me, Tom,
04:09the devil's advocate of it for Cleveland
04:11is that the guys who made this move
04:12may not then be around to see it all the way out.
04:16Yeah, I would certainly be inclined to agree with that.
04:19And we see a lot of franchises go through this
04:21where it's like a revolving door
04:23where it's like they're getting rid of one piece
04:25but still hanging on to another
04:26that the guy that just left brought in
04:29and now not everyone's on the same page,
04:31whether it be GM, you know,
04:32president of football operations, quarterback,
04:34what are we doing with the future first-round picks?
04:36You're expecting to have the, you know,
04:37picks next year in what could be a very strong class.
04:40But then is that coach and GM going to be on the same page
04:42and all these sorts of things?
04:44I think the negative aspect, you know,
04:46Jared Verst has big shoes to fill.
04:48Like, people are going to constantly compare him
04:50to Miles Garrett and it's not fair.
04:53It won't be fair to Jared Verst.
04:54He can have a fantastic career
04:55and still never live up to or match what Miles Garrett did,
04:59but he could still be amazing.
05:01And they need to bring pieces alongside him on defense
05:04if they're truly going to build around him as they did
05:06and say, this is our new Miles Garrett.
