00:00It's been a very active stretch of severe weather across the north-central U.S.
00:03We continue to see storms over the weekend in Ohio as well,
00:06where lightning lit up the sky during tornado-worn thunderstorms back on Saturday.
00:11And we want to take a look at tonight's severe risk area.
00:14Here we have kind of a two-pronged moderate risk.
00:16That's two out of four on the AccuWeather Severe Threat Index.
00:19And we're looking at areas like the eastern sections of Colorado,
00:22but also into the central plains, southern Nebraska, right across Kansas.
00:25Late tonight, probably after midnight,
00:29we're going to be dealing with some gusty storms rolling into the Kansas City metro.
00:32Hail, damaging winds, that's the main concern, and also isolated tornadoes.
00:36So as we take a look at future radar and clouds,
00:38here we are with some storms rumbling, and these are the concern.
00:42There we are at 11 p.m. central time, still west of Kansas City, but not by much.
00:46And then some of these storms roll in, and they'll be scattered but intense.
00:50Tuesday, bigger severe weather escalating here,
00:54bigger risk of severe weather escalating into the Dakotas, especially North Dakota.
00:58But also some strong and severe storms down into the central plains as well on Tuesday.
01:02Wednesday, we get real concerned about Minneapolis in the afternoon,
01:05and especially east into Madison, Wisconsin.
01:07Some of those storms will be especially aggressive, rumbling into Chicago late.
01:11Then a new episode Thursday into Chicago.
01:13Here they get into the Rockford area Thursday afternoon, knocking on the door of Chicago.
01:18Heat is escalating and building, and that's a big part of the storyline here
01:23across the central and into the interior eastern U.S.
01:26Tuesday, for example, we were looking at some of the numbers here,
01:29and we'll be a little shy of records, but you can see just a few degrees shy here,
01:34within maybe four or five degrees, within two degrees of record highs there in Mitchell,
01:37South Dakota, for Tuesday.
01:39So it's going to be hot, and we have a high risk.
01:41That's three out of four on the AccuWeather four-tiered severe threat index
01:44for a big chunk of North Dakota on Tuesday afternoon and evening into the night.
01:49Large hail, isolated tornadoes, but widespread damaging wind gust potential there
01:54in central and west-central North Dakota.
01:57So here we are with a high risk.
01:59Minot, Bismarck, Rugby, and Bottineau, North Dakota,
02:02facing some of these widespread damaging winds Tuesday afternoon, evening, and night.
02:06Then the heat begins to escalate a bit more into Chicago on Wednesday.
02:10Air conditioners are going to be running on high.
02:14And we're going to go with, at this point, a two out of four moderate risk area.
02:18Minneapolis to Madison, Milwaukee, Rockford, Illinois, Cedar Rapids, Stavenport,
02:24some of the Quad Cities facing some of that.
02:25And if we get more specific, again, here's Minneapolis taking us through Wednesday afternoon.
02:30Wind and hail are the main drivers.
02:32Isolated but intense storms there.
02:34I think they're going to be more of a widespread hazard into Madison, Wisconsin,
02:38for Wednesday afternoon and evening.
02:39Wind and hail are the big issues here, but watch as this comes in with a little more gumption
02:44into parts of central and south-central Wisconsin.
02:47And then we're going to be dealing with more risks on Thursday
02:49into more of the Midwest with high heat and humidity driving the bus.
02:52Take a look.
