00:00On a Saturday, most classic pubs will know the faces that will come through their doors.
00:04But for regulars at the Lord Byron in Margate, they didn't know whether to be more surprised
00:08about the fact that Joe Cole was in their pub or that it had won £10,000 towards new
00:13TVs and a redecoration ahead of the World Cup.
00:16The Lord Byron was voted ahead of hundreds of other pubs from across the country in the
00:21competition that aimed to highlight the poor TV quality that many pubs worry are hurting
00:25their revenue.
00:25The small Margate spot came out on top in the end, earning a visit from the former
00:29West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool and England legend.
00:33The pubs, we need to bring the pub back, it's part of our culture, if anything that brings
00:40people together, whether they're in their house or on their screens, come together, have
00:45a drink, have a laugh, have a cry, I think it's really important, it's a great campaign
00:50and I hope all throughout the country to get it together.
00:54Now it's no secret that pubs across the country are struggling.
00:58In fact, two out of the three have said they're worried their TV quality isn't high enough
01:02to bring in massive crowds.
01:04And with the World Cup right around the corner, the last thing you want your pub to be is
01:08quiet.
01:09And another thing by this point...
01:13So Joe Cole has come to announce the pub will be getting a makeover, including brand new
01:18TVs and even some advertising in the local area, all thanks to that competition, worth
01:22about £10,000.
01:24And since pubs at the moment are struggling, for the landlord Tony, he says he's massively
01:29grateful.
01:29I mean it's such a good competition for Joe Cole and Samsung to do, to actually help.
01:33Little Backstreet pubs, local community, I mean you can see just the turnout, it's brilliant.
01:39It makes a big difference to showing the game, watching the game and everyone enjoying
01:43it really.
01:44Yeah, I mean obviously TV's are not cheap, and if you're on top high end, they're normally
01:48quite expensive, and when you've got a little Backstreet pub like us, it takes a long time
01:53to save up that money, but when you've got it, you can show a massive experience.
01:57And what Samsung has done, he's just literally hit the nail on the head and giving us four
02:02great TVs to show the game off to his World Cup.
02:05Winning the competition is certainly good for the local spirits, and for the pub to hopefully
02:09sell some too.
02:26Well, while it's certainly a win for the Lord Byron, the locals and the internationals
02:30are hoping they'll be able to watch England lift a trophy for the first time in 60 years,
02:34this time in slightly better quality.
02:36Finn McDermott, for KMTV, in Margate.
02:40Yeah, that's right.
02:40And
02:40I think probability of going back a year to his great
