00:07to 10 charges of submitting false claims totaling more than RM214,000 for the supply of medical
00:14equipment to health and rural clinics. Azizul Farid Muhammad pleaded not guilty before Sessions
00:21Court Judge Elizabeth Payawan. He was accused of using supply and service acceptance documents
00:27to deceive the health ministry into believing that medical equipment had been supplied to
00:32clinics under the Alor Gaja Health Office when the items were allegedly never delivered.
00:38The offences were allegedly committed between June 19 and September 29, 2023 at the Alor Gaja Health
00:45Office. The equipment was purportedly supplied by two companies and the accused was alleged to have
00:51known that the documents contained false material particulars intended to mislead the ministry.
00:57The charge, under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment
01:04and a fine of not less than five times the value of the false claims, or 10,000 ringgit,
01:10whichever is higher, upon conviction. The prosecution sought bail of between 40,000 ringgit
01:16and 50,000 ringgit, along with additional conditions, including reporting to the MACC
01:22and surrendering his passport. The defence requested lower bail, saying the accused had fully cooperated
01:29with investigators and was supporting a 13-year-old child with a heart condition.
