00:00:00Thanks to Wayne, his first knockout since December 95 when he KO'd Johnny Breedal at 155 of round number eight
00:00:08in his hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
00:00:12Well, another reminder, you're watching the Showtime Free Preview Weekend, which continues through tomorrow night with great Hollywood hits and
00:00:18highly acclaimed original programming.
00:00:20And don't forget, Showtime is America's number one boxing network.
00:00:23The preview won't last forever, so call 1-888-SHOWTIME now.
00:00:28And enjoy a Showtime long afternoon after the free preview is over.
00:00:34Up next, the main event, Casamayor Freitas into the dressing room of WBA champion Joel Casamayor.
00:00:41Four years after winning an Olympic gold medal for his native Cuba, Casamayor decided he could not wait a minute
00:00:46longer for his freedom.
00:00:48His defection in 1996 came at a tremendous personal price, but it also gave him the chance to realize what
00:00:54he believes is his destiny.
00:00:56To become the greatest Cuban fighter of his generation.
00:01:05I was born in Cuba and I grew up in a very poor neighborhood.
00:01:11And when I was little, I fought a lot in the streets.
00:01:13I fought a lot in the streets with my friends.
00:01:16Then one day, I got my head split open and my mother said, if you like to fight so much,
00:01:21let's go to the gym.
00:01:23Raised in the city of Guantanamo, a six-year-old Joel Casamayor quickly excelled in the gym and soon entered
00:01:29the prestigious Cuban amateur boxing program.
00:01:32Under Fidel Castro, Cuba's amateur boxing teams have become the best in the world, winning a mind-boggling 27 gold
00:01:39medals in their last six Olympics.
00:01:41And in 1992, Casamayor joined the legion of Cuban gold medalists.
00:01:47The government officials said they were going to give me money for winning the medal, but they didn't.
00:01:52They said they were going to give me a car, but they didn't.
00:01:54They gave me a bicycle.
00:01:57How is an Olympic gold medalist supposed to be riding around on a bicycle?
00:02:01I took the bike and I traded it for a pig.
00:02:04I took the pig, went to the corner, and told everyone there to join me in a feast.
00:02:10Frustrated by the rigid demands of the Cuban boxing program and eager for a better life,
00:02:15Casamayor made the most difficult decision of his life and defected to the United States.
00:02:20When I decided to leave Cuba, I did not tell anyone in my family, not my mother, my father, my
00:02:28brother.
00:02:29I felt horrible.
00:02:34I felt bad, but I knew once I did this, I would be able to provide a better life for
00:02:39my family back in Cuba.
00:02:42Relying on the speed and skills that had made him such a successful amateur,
00:02:47Casamayor quickly excelled in the pro ranks.
00:02:49And in only his 18th fight, he captured the WBA Super Featherweight Championship.
00:02:56What I like most about being world champion is being world champion.
00:03:01Because I'm from a country where I didn't have anything.
00:03:04The money hasn't changed me at all, though.
00:03:06I'm the way you see me now.
00:03:07It's my pride that I like to show people.
00:03:11Casamayor believes it is his destiny to become the most successful,
00:03:15most celebrated pro fighter to ever emigrate from Castro's Cuba.
00:03:19Yet, his dreams for the future will be forever intertwined with his past.
00:03:25My fans, they follow my career.
00:03:30And every fight that I win here, I dedicate to my mom, who is still in Cuba.
00:03:35She can't see me, but she hears and knows I'm doing well.
00:03:46Despite the magnitude of this fight, you have to believe pressure is not a factor,
00:03:50not for a man who picked a fight with Fidel Castro and walked away a winner on points.
00:03:55Intriguing matchup in light of the extreme contrast in styles.
00:03:59Casamayor on the left, the difficult southpaw boxer, Freitas on the right,
00:04:03the dangerous slugger, both unbeaten, both on the cusp of major stardom,
00:04:07depending on their level of performance this evening.
00:04:11And coming up next in the Pax Pavilion, Las Vegas, Nevada,
00:04:14what the folks here came to see,
00:04:16the first big fight of the new year,
00:04:18Joel Casamayor,
00:04:20Asilino Freitas,
00:04:21to unify two of the 130-pound titles.
00:04:27And back here with my ringside partner,
00:04:30former world champion Bobby Chez.
00:04:31And Bobby, what's going to be the major difference in this fight?
00:04:35I think as it shapes up right now,
00:04:37what seems to be the biggest difference
00:04:38is that Asilino Freitas is a big puncher,
00:04:41but relies strictly on that power to get his opponents out.
00:04:43On the other side of that coin,
00:04:44Joel Casamayor has shown some good power,
00:04:46excellent speed,
00:04:47some very slick defensive skills,
00:04:49and of course,
00:04:50add in that southpaw factor,
00:04:52makes it much more difficult to beat.
00:04:53I think he can adjust more,
00:04:55Asilino Freitas,
00:04:55than Freitas can adjust to him,
00:04:57and I tout him to win this fight.
00:04:58Can Freitas' power, though,
00:05:00be the great equalizer
00:05:01against the speed and accuracy of Casamayor?
00:05:03Well, we all know that anyone
00:05:04has one-punch knockout power,
00:05:06and Freitas does,
00:05:07can be number one.
00:05:08It can do the job.
00:05:09Is he quick enough to get the punches there?
00:05:11That's what remains to be seen.
00:05:12Can you imagine if Freitas had Casamayor's speed
00:05:14to go along with that power?
00:05:15A devastating combination.
00:05:16Oh, yes, it would be.
00:05:17Let's get your keys to victory.
00:05:19It's the final showdown
00:05:20for what now appears to be
00:05:21the two best fighters
00:05:22in the 130-pound division.
00:05:26Slick Casamayor, number one,
00:05:28establishes jabbing.
00:05:29This will help keep Freitas off balance at all times.
00:05:31Number two, Bonnie Smart from the outside.
00:05:33When he sets the fight distance and pace,
00:05:35he's hard to beat.
00:05:36And lastly, that straight left hand
00:05:37is most accurate and powerful weapon.
00:05:39Here, Casamayor on the left
00:05:40is going to pump a jab.
00:05:41Straight left hand,
00:05:42the Radford Beasley
00:05:43getting him in real big trouble.
00:05:46He sees him wobble.
00:05:47Now he comes back
00:05:48with five or six consecutive combinations
00:05:50of that jab
00:05:50and straight left hand again.
00:05:51His best weapon.
00:05:53One, two, one, two.
00:05:54I'm going to leave Beasley.
00:05:59Hit and not be hit,
00:06:00but that's Casamayor.
00:06:01And that left hand
00:06:01is so accurate and powerful for him.
00:06:03Eventually, the referee has to step in
00:06:04and call a halt to this one.
00:06:09With a crusher,
00:06:10Ocelino Freitas
00:06:11take the fight to the inside.
00:06:12He's a stronger
00:06:13and better inside fighter.
00:06:15Next, work the body.
00:06:16He wants to slow down
00:06:16the very quick Casamayor.
00:06:18And lastly,
00:06:19land his power shot.
00:06:20He has legitimate
00:06:20KO power
00:06:21in both hands.
00:06:23Here Freitas
00:06:23on the left
00:06:24against Lemuel Nelson
00:06:25throws a straight right hand lead
00:06:26and really hurts Nelson.
00:06:29He sees that Nelson's in trouble.
00:06:31Left hand's down.
00:06:32This gives him carte blanche
00:06:33to do what he needs to do.
00:06:34Right hand, left hand.
00:06:35Back and forth.
00:06:36Combination after combination.
00:06:37Hummeling Nelson to the canvas.
00:06:42His power is always a key
00:06:44to all the victims.
00:06:50And remember,
00:06:51Casamayor has never been down
00:06:53or in trouble.
00:06:54Freitas still has a suspect chin.
00:06:56Will he underestimate
00:06:57Casamayor's power?
00:06:58The monies on Casamayor,
00:07:00almost a two-to-one favorite
00:07:01with experience perhaps
00:07:03the deciding factor.
00:07:06As we get ready
00:07:07for the ring walks,
00:07:08Freitas agreeing to enter first
00:07:10and be introduced last.
00:07:12There he is
00:07:13with the WBO belt,
00:07:15Ocelino Freitas.
00:07:16Here we go.
00:07:16And the love of the ball!
00:07:19And the love of the ball!
00:07:21And the love of the ball!
00:07:22And the love of the ball!
00:07:23And the love of the ball!
00:07:24And the love of the ball!
00:07:27And the love of the ball!

00:07:53Go!
00:07:54Go!
00:07:54Go!
00:07:54Go!
00:08:05Oh
00:08:28his perfect knockout record scrolled in his last fight against former champ Alfred Cote
00:08:33predicted Casamayor won't go past five that'll have two three rounds to run then go down he
00:08:39averages a little more than three rounds of fight some feel Fretis might be exposed though by
00:08:45Casamayor as one dimensional I know that's an expression you used before can Fretis make
00:08:51Casamayor fight his fight and lure him into a slugfest you know there are going to be times
00:08:56Steve when Fretis will corner Casamayor and force him to fight no fighter can just move and move
00:09:00continue to move backward and win a fight even Casamayor has to stop pick his spots and fight
00:09:04back the key is going to be can Casamayor keep moving or will Fretis cut him off and keep him
00:09:10in the fight and keep him fighting too long that is what Fretis wants to do Brazilian fans jumping
00:09:16up and down there's a little bit of a delay to get Casamayor because the fighters are stationed
00:09:21downstairs below the ring area 22 of Fretis's 30 wins inside three rounds 19 of his 29 knockouts
00:09:31within two Alfred Cote the first opponent to extend Fretis past nine there he is Joe Casamayor
00:09:38said Fretis will be seen as he hasn't seen before as he makes his way for the elevator
00:09:43WBHF 26 and 0 16 knockouts the prolific amateur career 1992 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba

00:10:55Well, we saw how WBC 130-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. dominated hard-punching Diego
00:11:02Perales. Is Paso Mayor simply too slick for the heavy-handed Freitas? You know, that's one of the reasons that
00:11:08this fight parallels the Perales Mayweather fight so well. Is this boxer puncher too quick or too slick? Or would
00:11:14the slugger brawler, as in the case with Perales, not be able to be up to the test? Freitas' power
00:11:19is going to be tested. His chin is going to be tested. We have to find out everything tonight. The
00:11:23only champion is his that the winner of this fight doesn't get the fight with Mayweather Jr. That would be
00:11:28really exciting.
00:11:29This could come down to which fighter imposes his will more. As we size him up, we check out the
00:11:36tail of the tape.
00:11:38Paso Mayor is four years older than Prunus. Not a big difference in height. The reach even. At yesterday's weigh
00:11:44-in, both just under the 130 limit.
00:11:48Tonight, Paso Mayor gained 10 pounds, 139 and a half. Freitas, 138. And the key rules for this world title
00:11:55unification bouton. There's no standing eight-count. No three-knock-down rule. A fighter cannot be saved by the belt
00:12:00in any round.
00:12:01With an accidental headbutt, it carries before the end of the fourth round. It's a technical draw. If it happens
00:12:06after the end of round four, they go to the car.
00:12:09So here at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, getting ready for our main event, Joel Paso Mayor versus Ocelino
00:12:15Freitas, long awaited.
00:12:17Let's get the official introductions from our ring announcer, the classy Jimmy Lennon Jr.

00:13:38bout, he is working in this, his 146th world title bout, Joel Cortez.
00:13:45All right, fans, here we go, it's time for the showdown between the undefeated world champions, the main event of
00:13:54the evening, 12 rounds of boxing for the unified 130-pound world championship.
00:14:01And now, ladies and gentlemen in attendance and boxing fans joining us around the world, live from Las Vegas, it's
00:14:11showtime!
00:14:19Let's introduce him to you first, ladies and gentlemen, on my right, he is fighting out of the red corner,
00:14:25entering the ring wearing red, white, and blue trunks, fighting out of Miami, Florida, by way of Guantanamo, Cuba.
00:14:32His weight, his weight, 129 and one half pounds, 1992 Olympic gold medalist, now undefeated as a pro, with a
00:14:42record of 26 wins, no losses, 16 wins coming by, way of knockout.
00:14:47Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, making the fifth defense in this title, here is the WBA super featherweight champion of the
00:14:56world, introducing Joel, El Cepillo Casamayor!
00:15:08And his opponent, ladies and gentlemen, across the ring on my left, fighting out of the blue corner, he is
00:15:14wearing white trunks, joining us all the way from San Lavo, Brazil.
00:15:19He weighting the same as his opponent, 129 and one half pounds, his impressive record skills at 30 wins, no
00:15:28losses, 29, big wins coming by, way of knockout.
00:15:32Tonight, making the seventh defense in this title, here is the hard-hitting, the WBA, junior lightweight champion of the
00:15:40world, introducing Asadino, Cuba.
00:15:52Once again, referee in charge, Joel Cortez, now to give instructions.
00:16:23Let's show you what happened.
00:16:25When the two fighters entered the ring, a little extracurricular activity, nice dance steps by the two.
00:16:36Perhaps a little early fight shenanigans, taunting.
00:16:41Will Joel Casamayor, a smart boxer, be able to stay away from the hard punches of Asadino Freitas?
00:16:47And if not, does he have the chin to stay up?
00:16:49Can Freitas catch the elusive Casamayor and take the fight away from a man who almost always controls the pace?
00:16:56Here we go, round one.
00:17:01First couple of rounds are going to be key, but Freitas can't land and gets countered.
00:17:06Casamayor can move at will, lays out for his type of fight.
00:17:11Casamayor, not a particularly fast starter.
00:17:14Takes him a while to get into his rhythm, and Freitas will try not to allow that to happen.
00:17:19He'll look to jump on Casamayor early.
00:17:25Freitas, 12 of his 29 knockouts in the first.
00:17:28He's KO'd 22 inside three.
00:17:31Extremely heavy-handed for a little man.
00:17:34Right now, Freitas missing a lot of big punches.
00:17:36They're trying to shot to the body.
00:17:38Missing big punches up top.
00:17:40Not good for Freitas.
00:17:43As they settle in.
00:17:47Freitas throwing the jab, working on his speed.
00:17:50His last fight under a new trainer, Oscar Suarez.
00:17:55Head movement there by Freitas.
00:18:02Casamayor keeping his distance.
00:18:08Casamayor landing in that flurry.
00:18:11Freitas got a couple of them out for himself looking crazy.
00:18:13And Casamayor rolls with the punches very well.
00:18:22Now Freitas kicking to the body with the right hand.
00:18:25But not affecting Casamayor.
00:18:33The crowd chanting purple, which is the nickname for Freitas.
00:18:37That right hand was blocked by Casamayor.
00:18:42Casamayor, right now, is showing respect for the power of Ocasino Freitas.
00:18:51Straight right hand to the chin by Freitas.
00:18:55That got through the gloves of Casamayor.
00:18:59But he was at the end of it.
00:19:01Fortunately for him.
00:19:10Casamayor missing wildly with the left.
00:19:12It was more of a slap.
00:19:13It was an unorthodox left hand.
00:19:14Even for a southpaw.
00:19:17He trips.
00:19:20Not a knockdown.
00:19:24He may have been rattled just a tad, Casamayor, by that straight right hand a moment ago.
00:19:31It did get through.
00:19:35Casamayor.
00:19:36The words of the third man there, Joe Cortez.
00:19:41Casamayor never down.
00:19:43He's been stunned just once by the Korean John Quang Beck when he won the title.
00:19:49That hand off the top of the head by Freitas.
00:19:53Hitting to the body.
00:20:03We'll take you into Joe Casamayor's corner.
00:20:06Francisco Martignan, our transfer.
00:20:10And that's it.
00:20:10You didn't let him touch him.
00:20:11You didn't have to get out of here.
00:20:12You didn't have to get out of here, baby.
00:20:13You're seeing this.
00:20:14This is my grease.
00:20:15This is my grease.
00:20:16This is my grease.
00:20:16This is my side.
00:20:17Okay.
00:20:18All right.
00:20:19Keep him in the center of the range.
00:20:22For example.
00:20:24All right.
00:20:25He'll start slowing down now that he knows he can't hit him.
00:20:27Stay off the ropes.
00:20:35Keep him in the middle, Joe.
00:20:40Téntelo.
00:20:41Good job.
00:20:42You have to have the opportunity with the right hand.
00:20:44You have your problem.
00:20:45Okay?
00:20:47Okay, protect him.
00:20:49Mike gave the edge to Freitas in that first round.
00:20:53I have to agree.
00:20:53The effective aggressive for 90% of the round landed the cleaner in stronger power punches.
00:21:00But one round does not a fight make.
00:21:02That we know.
00:21:09Something very unusual.
00:21:10If you've noticed, the two left hands that Cosme has thrown have been looping and slapping.
00:21:14Not straight down the middle, like we saw with Beasley.
00:21:16Not what he's used to throwing.
00:21:20And no official knockdown there.
00:21:22Here comes Cosme with a wicked combination upstairs.
00:21:40Cosme walked in to a straight left.
00:21:43He walked in to a straight double J.
00:21:44I couldn't believe it.
00:21:51Nice left hand.
00:21:52The best thrown by Cosme so far.
00:22:00Both fighters over-learing of each other's power and combinations.
00:22:05Almost too defensive at times.
00:22:11Cosme are missing with the left hand.
00:22:14Freitas looking to counter.
00:22:16Cosme is the one who is known as the great counter puncher.
00:22:19Freitas to the head and upstairs.
00:22:21Beautiful left hook.
00:22:22And he staggered.
00:22:23Great bridge.
00:22:24He staggered Cosme.
00:22:25And laid into the temple.
00:22:26Cosme is in a good trouble around here.
00:22:28And he holds on.
00:22:33It was a good left hook to the body by Freitas.
00:22:35It set up that right hand to the head of Cosme.
00:22:41Cosme are feeling the sting of Freitas' punches here in round two.
00:22:49Freitas looking very confident.
00:22:52Another nice right hand to the body there.
00:22:54Freitas paying attention to the body.
00:22:55Works only one of the keys.
00:22:56I think is huge.
00:22:59Great duck move by Freitas.
00:23:02But he missed with the right.
00:23:04It landed cleanly.
00:23:07So far Freitas looking the better of the two.
00:23:10A flat combination.
00:23:11And then able to elude those punches by Casemayor.
00:23:18Freitas looking very sharp.
00:23:27Freitas continues to be the aggressor.
00:23:32Pressing the attack.
00:23:33Controlling the tempo.
00:23:35Which is something Casemayor usually does.
00:23:38Nice double right hand there by Freitas.
00:23:39Not leaning fully clean.
00:23:41But not bad.
00:23:42But remember, Cosme had trouble with Roberto Garcia.
00:23:45The first four or five rods.
00:23:46And then came back to stop him in the ninth.
00:23:54Now Roberto Garcia works as his sparring partner.
00:24:02The Brazilian fan.
00:24:10Okay.
00:24:11Breathe easily.
00:24:13Come on.
00:24:14Stay out.
00:24:16Have a little water.
00:24:17Stay out.
00:24:22Don't worry.
00:24:23You can hit him down.
00:24:24One good hit only.
00:24:26One good.
00:24:27One good hit only.
00:24:33Freitas looking to work on the inside.
00:24:35There's a right hand.
00:24:35And this left hook to the body.
00:24:36That's a good shot to the body.
00:24:38Left up top.
00:24:39And then eventually a nice right hand there.
00:24:40And that's slightly staggered Casemayor.
00:24:42Very briefly.
00:24:43Best combination of the fight so far.
00:24:46For either fighter.
00:24:47Asilino Freitas putting on the front.
00:24:49There you see a left hook to the body.
00:24:50Now right hand off to the top of the temple.
00:24:52And you see the slight stagger by Casemayor.
00:24:57Freitas' strategy.
00:24:58Don't let Casemayor get into his rhythm.
00:25:01That's when he's really dangerous.
00:25:03Well Casemayor told me in the meetings.
00:25:04Before his interpreter.
00:25:05That he was going to come out very slowly.
00:25:06For the first two to three rounds.
00:25:07And then find out what he needs to do.
00:25:09To make the adjustments.
00:25:10Well the first two are over.
00:25:11And as far as I'm concerned.
00:25:12In the bank.
00:25:13For Freitas.
00:25:13Now he has to start making the adjustments.
00:25:16Round three.
00:25:17Scheduled for twelve.
00:25:18To unify.
00:25:19The WBA WBO 130 pound championships.
00:25:23The first two rounds.
00:25:25Belonging to Freitas.
00:25:27Casemayor said this was going to be the easiest fight of his career.
00:25:30Nice left hand by Casemayor.
00:25:31I'm not sure how that could be possible.
00:25:34I don't buy that either.
00:25:38He's fighting out.
00:25:40It's not.
00:25:40At the same time.
00:25:41I don't think Freitas.
00:25:42Saying that he's going to stop him within five rounds.
00:25:44Is reasonable by assessing the fight that easily.
00:25:47A little machismo going in.
00:25:51Some chest thumping by the two.
00:25:58Something significant here.
00:25:59Casemayor starting to come forward now.
00:26:01Freitas moving backward.
00:26:02Freitas can't win the fight going backward.
00:26:05Casemayor.
00:26:06Oh.
00:26:06Casemayor goes down.
00:26:08Right in hand.
00:26:09It's a knockdown.
00:26:10Yes it is.
00:26:11Oh.
00:26:12Knockdown.
00:26:13For the first time.
00:26:14He tripped but he got caught on the way down.
00:26:16He disputes the call by Joe Cortez.
00:26:22It happens near the midway point of round three.
00:26:26A disputed knockdown.
00:26:28Joe Casemayor down for the first time in his career.
00:26:35The 1-10 mark of round three.
00:26:41And that has to fuel Freitas Moore.
00:26:44A straight right hand of the chin by Freitas.
00:26:47And he is just railing away now.
00:26:51He's not raining now, Steve.
00:26:52Get a car that way to punch yourself out.
00:26:54Freitas raining punches on Casemayor.
00:26:57He wants to end it now.
00:26:59And for the left of the third.
00:27:01This is what he wants.
00:27:03He wants to engage Casemayor in a slugfest.
00:27:06The right now it's working.
00:27:07A long run.
00:27:07And there's a cutter on the left eye of Casemayor.
00:27:10Yep.
00:27:10A headbutt.
00:27:11The hits clashed.
00:27:13Careful, I'm a punch.
00:27:15Now, Cortez says it comes for a push.
00:27:18Freitas indicating other one.
00:27:26For now, we'll take the word of the very, very capable Joe Cortez.
00:27:35We're trying to see if the blood is getting into the left eye of Casemayor to count his vision.
00:27:42For more problems for Joe.
00:27:46It looks like it's around the eye.
00:27:49He's not getting in there.
00:27:54And again, Freitas complaining.
00:27:56A flash of heads.
00:27:59Two rounds for Freitas.
00:28:01Ten-eight.
00:28:03That is enough.
00:28:05Nothing, Doc.
00:28:06It's nothing.
00:28:06Let me work it.
00:28:08Let me have that.
00:28:09What are you doing?
00:28:11Come here.
00:28:18Respira fundo.
00:28:23Tranquilo.
00:28:24Freitas with a cut as well.
00:28:27We're going to take a look at that fight that was called a knockdown.
00:28:30There, it's slipping backward.
00:28:32And he gets kind of hit on the tail and they go punch.
00:28:34That is a very marginal call.
00:28:36He was slipping backward.
00:28:37Watch Casemayor's feet.
00:28:39That right hand doesn't really connect, but he throws it.
00:28:43He lands on the gloves and chest area.
00:28:45Casemayor was falling off balance on his own, which technically counts as a knockdown.
00:28:52We're going to see a nice clash of heads right there.
00:28:54Casemayor budding.
00:28:56That did not look unintentional, Bobby.
00:29:00I'm sure it did not.
00:29:02Round four.
00:29:04Casemayor perhaps looking for desperate measures now.
00:29:08Feeling the heat from Freitas in many ways.
00:29:12Well, Oscar Suarez, a longtime friend.
00:29:14I know him for more than 20 years.
00:29:15What they try to do is add some speed to Freitas.
00:29:18Throws punches a little straighter.
00:29:19Get there a little quicker with the power he has.
00:29:22He thinks that that would be the key of winning.
00:29:23So far, first three rounds.
00:29:25I think, in the back.
00:29:33Something else that Oscar Suarez said to me,
00:29:34Steve, he wanted to make Casemayor come in off balance.
00:29:37And a couple of times, he's come in jumping off balance.
00:29:39Looking very often.
00:29:47Nice left uppercut by Casemayor.
00:29:49Best punch of the night for him.
00:29:56That right hand was blocked by the left glove of Casemayor.
00:29:59That left glove got pushed into the eye and he opened up a little bit.
00:30:04A barrage by Freitas, jumping all over Casemayor.
00:30:08Casemayor continues to rub the blood away from the eye.
00:30:13He's starting to get in there now and bother him.
00:30:17Maybe hindering his vision.
00:30:22Freitas waiting for his moment.
00:30:25Very, very patient and deliberate.
00:30:30He looks like he wants to unleash a bomb.
00:30:34Hold on, hold on.
00:30:36Hold on, hold on.
00:30:41Casemayor missing.
00:30:42Bingo, powder by Freitas.
00:30:46Body shot there by Freitas.
00:30:53Freitas with just an abrasion under his left eye.
00:30:56Not dangerous.
00:30:57He's is under.
00:30:58He's is under.
00:30:59Casemayor is over.
00:31:00Significance there is huge.
00:31:02Huge.
00:31:03Straight right hand of the eye area by Freitas.
00:31:08Right now the injury.
00:31:09Freitas to it.
00:31:10Left to counter by Casemayor.
00:31:12Freitas threw a right hand and ducked in.
00:31:14And Casemayor threw a cute little shoulder.
00:31:19He's got the trick.
00:31:21A hook cut to the jaw by Freitas.
00:31:22And a countering left hook by Casemayor to the head.
00:31:26Freitas turned with that left hook.
00:31:27Not very effective by Casemayor.
00:31:29But, I'll tell you what.
00:31:30He's much more effective at hitting Casemayor and making Casemayor miss than I thought he could be.
00:31:36Freitas.
00:31:38Casemayor answers with a left hook to the head.
00:31:40Freitas showing the chin.
00:31:43That was a terrific punch by Casemayor.
00:31:55As we head for the bell.
00:31:59Great action.
00:32:03That was four, right?
00:32:04That was four.
00:32:05Time coming up.
00:32:11We got some water.
00:32:14We got a little water on here.
00:32:20Quick.
00:32:22Good.
00:32:32Put your head up.
00:32:33Don't get him down.
00:32:34Okay?
00:32:35Hit him when he gets close to you.
00:32:41Maintain the pressure on him.
00:32:42Come on.
00:32:43Every time he comes at you.
00:32:44Go for it.
00:32:44Hit him.
00:32:48Calm down.
00:32:49Calm down.
00:32:49Don't get too excited.
00:32:51Let's go.
00:32:52Bobby, does Casemayor finally grab a round?
00:32:55You know, I think he did.
00:32:55I think he was more effective in that round.
00:32:58The counter punch moving.
00:32:59Making Freitas miss.
00:33:01Little give and take.
00:33:02Little chess match type round.
00:33:04But, I think Casemayor took the edge there.
00:33:05And it's round five.
00:33:07Scheduled for 12 to unify two 130-pound titles.
00:33:19The elusive Casemayor may be gaining a little confidence now.
00:33:30Freitas stalking.
00:33:41Remember, Freitas said Casemayor wouldn't go past five.
00:33:44Let's check in with Jim Gray.
00:33:46Steve, in between rounds, I spoke to Dr. Margaret Goodman, the attending ringside physician.
00:33:51She looked at Casemayor's eye.
00:33:52She said it is not deep.
00:33:53It is not bad.
00:33:54The blood is dripping into his eye.
00:33:55And it's giving him a little bit of a problem.
00:33:57And it's nowhere near deep enough for her to stop the fight.
00:34:00Now, for Freitas, she didn't even bother to go over and look at the little cut underneath his eye.
00:34:05Steve.
00:34:05All right, Jim.
00:34:06Casemayor tasting some leather in that plastic state.
00:34:09Nice double-white hand by Freitas.
00:34:10Both leaning pretty cleanly.
00:34:12Casemayor getting hit a little more than usual.
00:34:16This is highly unusual for Casemayor, who has never, ever had any trouble in the past.
00:34:24Midway through, round number five.
00:34:27Let's check in with Press Row scoring.
00:34:29They're all dot-combers tonight.
00:34:30And they've all got Freitas ahead.
00:34:41Straight right hand, but we shield it by Casemayor.
00:34:50We come up to a minute remaining in round five.
00:34:55Almost a low blow by Casemayor.
00:35:03Freitas still looking the sharper of the two.
00:35:08Most of those punches being blocked by Freitas.
00:35:14Freitas looks like he's regrouping.
00:35:17If you noticed there, you saw it again.
00:35:18A very sloppy, looping left hand by Casemayor.
00:35:22He's known for a straight, beautiful, quick and accurate left hand.
00:35:24He's just not throwing it tonight.
00:35:26He's either...
00:35:27Thinks it's a different set of style he needs to put together here, but something's wrong.
00:35:31Well, how about the punches by Freitas could be taking some steam out of him and making him click twice.
00:35:36But he's just not throwing it the same way.
00:35:37Normally, even if the steam's out, he'd throw it the same way.
00:35:39With the left hand over the head by Casemayor, but not clean.
00:35:44Freitas got some good body work in here as well.
00:35:48Freitas doing the better countering thus far.
00:35:51And Casemayor is known as the counter puncher.
00:35:53He's out working Casemayor pretty much every round.
00:35:57And of course, his punches are a lot harder.
00:36:03Five.
00:36:04That was five.
00:36:05Okay, it's six now.
00:36:06Okay?
00:36:06It's your part of the lapel.
00:36:08Okay?
00:36:09Entend?
00:36:10Let's do it.
00:36:11Let's do it.
00:36:12Okay?
00:36:16We're going to take a look.
00:36:17Casemayor is going to throw a right hand right down the middle here.
00:36:19And then back up for another one.
00:36:21Both of them land cleanly.
00:36:22Freitas, excuse me, against Casemayor.
00:36:24Right hand lands clean bang.
00:36:26Right back with it.
00:36:27Double right hand.
00:36:28Very, very unorthodox, but very effective against the southpawls.
00:36:48You know what to do.
00:36:50Get on the right hand side.
00:36:52Get on the right hand side.
00:36:53You know what to do.
00:36:53Let's go.
00:36:55Francisco Madrigal, our Spanish and Portuguese translator.
00:37:00Portuguese in the Freitas corner.
00:37:03Casemayor told us he neutralized Freitas with his jab.
00:37:05Are we seeing enough of that by Joel Casemayor?
00:37:08Well, I don't think he's neutralizing with an effective jab.
00:37:10Jeb's going to be effective.
00:37:11Can't just throw it out there.
00:37:12And what is happening is the strength and power, I think, is being underestimated by Casemayor.
00:37:17Freitas is coming in very strongly.
00:37:18And those punches are heavy.
00:37:23We made note of that earlier before the fight that Casemayor or Freitas could underestimate the power of Casemayor.
00:37:31But it is Freitas' power that is coming through here.
00:37:36And Oscar Suarez, the trainer of Freitas, told us that Freitas is quicker than Casemayor.
00:37:42That he can stay with Casemayor.
00:37:44And here's a bad example of getting out of the way of a punch.
00:37:47He leans his head back to where the punch has more leverage than his head.
00:37:51And snapped him back there.
00:37:52Not real strong.
00:37:53It looked better than it was, but nonetheless, a good defense.
00:37:56Another right hand.
00:37:58Freitas.
00:38:00Casemayor backs Freitas up with a straight left.
00:38:03That's his big punch, the straight left.
00:38:05Let's see if we can see more of that now.
00:38:07And that's the straight left that I illustrated as a key.
00:38:12Some wild exchanges here now.
00:38:13Now in round six.
00:38:16Got the crowd charged up.
00:38:18Not a sellout, by the way.
00:38:212,900, or I should say 2,092.
00:38:243,100 is the capacity.
00:38:27This is a compelling fight in the boxing community.
00:38:31But most people on the street never heard of these two guys.
00:38:35The average person on the street.
00:38:38But that could all change after this fight.
00:38:42If this fight were in Miami, it would get 10, 15,000.
00:38:46In Brazil, 50,000 to 80,000.
00:38:53Could be a little bit of a time point in the fight right here so far.
00:38:57Freitas not quite as strong on the way in.
00:38:59Not quite as quick with his hands.
00:39:01Casemayor getting a little more brave throwing more punches.
00:39:05Casemayor hitting on the back of the head.
00:39:07And Freitas nearly doubled over.
00:39:11They call time now.
00:39:13Cortez warning Casemayor.
00:39:15And it's getting ugly now.
00:39:21A rabbit punch by Casemayor.
00:39:24And Freitas is upset.
00:39:27A right hand by Freitas to the side.
00:39:30Casemayor's in right back.
00:39:34Oh, and then he hits on the break.
00:39:36Casemayor hits on the break.
00:39:38And Cortez is taking a point for Joe Casemayor.
00:39:41It's a valid move by Cortez.
00:39:44Good move.
00:39:44He's got a break.
00:39:45He's got a break.
00:39:47Roughhouse tactics.
00:39:49Time now.
00:39:49Let's go.
00:39:49By Casemayor.
00:39:51Could be a sign of frustration.
00:39:52We're just trying not to let Freitas off the hook after hitting the back of the head.
00:39:57Freitas eluding those punches.
00:40:01Great footwork by Freitas.
00:40:05Look at the aggressor now.
00:40:07It's a different fight.
00:40:08This is not how Freitas can fight.
00:40:10Doesn't fight as well going backwards.
00:40:12But eluding those shots by Casemayor nevertheless.
00:40:16Casemayor walked into a right hand.
00:40:23An ugly round for Casemayor.
00:40:30I was leading with him the first time.
00:40:32But he did it on the second one, Joe.
00:40:35You took a point at the wrong time.
00:40:38I was leading.
00:40:39I know.
00:40:40I know.
00:40:41Okay.
00:40:46Casemayor gets back into the fight.
00:40:48This great straight left hand.
00:40:49Freitas can't outmaneuver it.
00:40:51Catch him right in the face.
00:40:52Builds the confidence and momentum for Casemayor.
00:40:55Who went on to win the round.
00:40:57We'll see a little bit of a rapid punch here.
00:40:59If not a lot of a bit of a rapid punch.
00:41:00I mean, he just hits it dead in the back of the neck.
00:41:03Looking clearly at the back of his head.
00:41:07Referee breaks it up and he smacks him in the air.
00:41:10Casemayor may be getting frustrated by the fact that he's behind.
00:41:13I thought he won the round.
00:41:13But take the deduction away.
00:41:15It's an even round.
00:41:15Big in the scoring.
00:41:16It just goes through decisions.
00:41:18I don't think there's any question Casemayor is frustrated.
00:41:21His best punch in the 43-second mark of round six.
00:41:24It was out of distance.
00:41:25The crowd reacted.
00:41:27Then paved the following by Casemayor.
00:41:30And Cortez had to take action.
00:41:33That question will knock down.
00:41:35And the rule against guys are also.
00:41:36You're doing big in the scoring.
00:41:38Should we go to the scorecard?
00:41:40How about your unofficial scorers at the hat?
00:41:43I have it 4-1 and 1-even.
00:41:4558-54 for Asalino Freitas.
00:41:53Asalino Freitas appears to be well ahead thus far.
00:41:56Halfway through.
00:41:59And he's got Casemayor frustrated.
00:42:02But I see something in Freitas.
00:42:03I see some fatigue factors moving.
00:42:05Hands are not punching as much.
00:42:07Not as sturdy in his combination.
00:42:09Not as strong inside.
00:42:10Casemayor coming forward.
00:42:12Being more effective.
00:42:13It's a big turning point the last round.
00:42:17Casemayor coming forward.
00:42:19He's dictating.
00:42:21Body shot by Casemayor.
00:42:22He shoves Freitas away.
00:42:25Look out.
00:42:28Casemayor.
00:42:30He's willing to do another rapid punch.
00:42:33A shoulder punch there by Casemayor.
00:42:37Up.
00:42:40Up.
00:42:43Come on.
00:42:44Come on.
00:42:53Freitas has been down twice in his career.
00:42:55In case you're wondering.
00:42:57And the punches weren't that hard.
00:43:01Right uppercut.
00:43:02Partially plucked.
00:43:03Uppercut by Freitas.
00:43:04That was a beautiful red upper cover.
00:43:05He just followed the left hook and a follow-up right hand.
00:43:07Would have been a nice combination.
00:43:13Again, it's Paso Mayor on the attack.
00:43:18He's the one pressuring Freitas.
00:43:20Freitas does not fight well going backwards.
00:43:22He always has to stop, leap in, land those power shots.
00:43:27Oh, look over here.
00:43:31Oh, a great combination of the head by Freitas.
00:44:01I think this fight is reaching very critical point for both riders.
00:44:04Not just in the scoring, but in the momentum of the key.
00:44:07Ooh, dishebacked.
00:44:09Paso Mayor catching Freitas, going back with the left hook.
00:44:14Unfortunately for Freitas, he was going in that direction.
00:44:19Pulling tactics out by Paso Mayor.
00:44:21The bell to end the round.
00:44:24And what's going on in the mind of Eliana?
00:44:26That's the wife of Ocelino.
00:44:29Who's had difficulty in the past watching her husband fight.
00:44:36And she's going to have to worry with tactics like this.
00:44:42Swinging at the back of his head once again, Steve.
00:44:44And it's clear from behind.
00:44:46There's nothing even close about it.
00:44:49Watch from overhead.
00:44:50He's clearly behind him and swinging at the back of his head.
00:44:53Just doesn't make any sense.
00:44:59And Freitas, leaving his hands down, gets caught.
00:45:01With a nice left hand.
00:45:03Straight left hand by Paso Mayor.
00:45:04The straight left hand that he had been missing in the first four rounds.
00:45:08Now back and working well.
00:45:10Paso Mayor, coming on.
00:45:12Let's go.
00:45:16He lost the first four rounds.
00:45:19Unofficially, but he's come back the last three.
00:45:23But still, due to the knockdown and the one-point deduction, he's behind.
00:45:29Oh, and then Freitas, after the combination, throws Paso Mayor to the campus.
00:45:34And he gets cautioned by Joe Cortez.
00:45:37So now Freitas using some rough house tactics.
00:45:44Big left hand to the side of the head.
00:45:47Throws it up by Freitas.
00:45:48Freitas coming out this round, throwing much more left hooks.
00:45:52I'm wondering if Suarez hits on the ground.
00:45:54More purses behind these Freitas punches.
00:45:57Missing wildly with the left hook.
00:45:59Looking to end it on one punch, his Freitas.
00:46:03And he can do it.
00:46:04He's got that kind of capability.
00:46:07He's not backing up nowhere near as much in the last round.
00:46:11Nice right hand lead.
00:46:15He's going toe-to-toe with Paso Mayor now.
00:46:22Now for the first time of the round, he backpedals.
00:46:29Freitas to the right hand.
00:46:32Watch the head, says Joe Cortez.
00:46:35To Freitas.
00:46:39They have had a couple of clash of heads, resulting in cuts.
00:46:43The worst to Paso Mayor around the left guy earlier.
00:46:45But they've done a nice job over there in the corner.
00:46:54A backhand.
00:46:55A backhand by Freitas.
00:46:56And you knew Joe Cortez was going to warn him about that.
00:47:05Much more effective round for Freitas so far.
00:47:08Once again, Paso Mayor with a straight left.
00:47:11Straight left hand by Paso Mayor that tags Freitas.
00:47:18But Freitas is going back every time he does it.
00:47:21They can't catch him clean.
00:47:23No, I want to.
00:47:24No, I want to.
00:47:25No, I want to.
00:47:25No, I want to.
00:47:25No, I want to.
00:47:25Take a little brazo.
00:47:26Take a little brazo.
00:47:28Take a little brazo.
00:47:30Take a little brazo.
00:47:31These guys fighting like they really don't like each other.
00:47:37Take a little brazo.
00:47:39Take a little brazo.
00:47:40Freitas has landed the cleaner punches and probably more of the power shots this round.
00:47:44but starting to back up again
00:47:46Freitas losing some of the momentum he had early in the round
00:47:5130 seconds remaining in round 8
00:47:57Freitas in the white
00:47:59Casemayor in the multi-color truck
00:48:04countering right hand by
00:48:05Ocelino Freitas off the left hook by
00:48:08Casemayor
00:48:09Come on
00:48:16Freitas handling the upward southpaw style of Casemayor well
00:48:22Freitas with a big spout raising his arm
00:48:29Listen, listen, listen
00:48:31I need, I need
00:48:40You see a roughhousing
00:48:43Freitas threw a left hook and he just kind of threw him to the ground
00:48:45Not very fair, not very nice
00:48:47Now we're going to see
00:48:49Ocelino Freitas is going to throw a right hand up this way
00:48:53And Casemayor is going to turn over here
00:48:54And catch him with a straight left hand to the jaw
00:48:56Countering very nicely
00:48:59Misses this
00:49:00Steps around and tags him with a wonderful shot
00:49:02But again, it's a balanced shot
00:49:04Turned his neck, wasn't as flush as he would have liked it to be
00:49:07Good counterpunch by Casemayor
00:49:14And the Brazilian fans are celebrating
00:49:17But don't celebrate too early
00:49:21One knockdown of the fight
00:49:22A disputed knockdown
00:49:24Casemayor down a one-tout of round three
00:49:26Down for the first time ever
00:49:28Casemayor came out
00:49:29Throwing punches straight
00:49:30Straight one-two immediately
00:49:32All-catching Freitas flush
00:49:34Look out
00:49:35Oh, hey, hey
00:49:38Freitas gets spun around
00:49:40No quiero pelea sucia porque tĂș no lucha libre, Âżentiendes?
00:49:44Give me a free fight, it's not wrestling
00:49:45Let's go
00:49:46Time in
00:49:49We fight, what's up, Cortez?
00:49:51For the bilingual approach round nine
00:49:53Starts off
00:49:55And right now, if you watch
00:49:56Joel Casemayor wants to get into a street fight
00:49:59And Freitas does not
00:50:01It's a fatigue factor now
00:50:03I think it's setting in
00:50:07Remember, Freitas not used to going this deep
00:50:10He averages just over three rounds of the fight
00:50:12He's extended to ten rounds for the first time
00:50:15In his last fight
00:50:17Now, a bad cut around the right eye of Freitas
00:50:23And the blood may be going into the right eye
00:50:26But now it's Freitas who's badly cut
00:50:29And it's Casemayor batting her
00:50:31He looks like the loser
00:50:45But he's simply ahead of the line
00:50:51Hold on, hold on, hold on
00:50:53Let's go
00:50:54Cortez jump again before any more spinning
00:50:57Oh, a pit right hand by Freitas to the head
00:51:00You see, Freitas is one and done
00:51:02Vasquez is ready to work
00:51:04Freitas is tying him up as quickly as he can
00:51:06When he gets close
00:51:07A roundhouse right by Freitas
00:51:09A left hand by Freitas to the temple
00:51:13A sense of urgency now, perhaps
00:51:15In the mind of Asalino Freitas with that bad cut
00:51:18I don't think it's just a cut, Steve
00:51:20I think it's fatigue
00:51:21I think he's tired
00:51:21I think his arms are getting tired
00:51:23His shoulder's weary
00:51:24He's having problems delivering
00:51:26Power punches
00:51:27He's doing more
00:51:28Casemayor more accustomed to going this deep
00:51:30He's gone ten rounds ten times
00:51:33Twelve rounds on four occasions
00:51:35Freitas has never been past ten
00:51:39Clipping left hand to the jaw
00:51:41Here's another straight left hand by Casemayor
00:51:43He's coming on kick now
00:51:45Another sign that Freitas is really tired
00:51:47He's swinging wildly one at a time
00:51:49And another left hand by Casemayor
00:51:51Now Freitas has a bloody nose to hand to his collection
00:51:57Big finish to the round by Joel Casemayor
00:52:02And Freitas got him and standing in
00:52:04A left hand by Casemayor
00:52:07Now he's playing with Freitas
00:52:23A tremendous round
00:52:26But a great run for Casemayor
00:52:39Respira fundo, papal
00:52:40Respira fundo
00:52:42Tranquilo
00:52:43Breathe deep
00:52:44Breathe deep
00:52:45It's okay
00:52:46Calm down
00:52:47You're pushing him back
00:52:49You're pushing him back
00:52:50Calm down
00:53:00Don't get back
00:53:01Don't get back
00:53:03Go forward
00:53:04Go forward
00:53:06What's happening?
00:53:07This is the fact of your life
00:53:10Israel looks like the cut got open
00:53:13Freitas comes in
00:53:16Slam right there
00:53:17Side of both heads
00:53:20Very difficult
00:53:21Very difficult to tell in this type of fight
00:53:23Which one of the clashes actually did it
00:53:24But that appeared to be the one
00:53:31If Freitas loses I'm sure
00:53:32They'll be complaining
00:53:34Afterwards about the head movement
00:53:36The head clashing
00:53:37And Freitas comes out
00:53:39Possessed now in round 10
00:53:41Voskis Juarez
00:53:42His trainer said
00:53:43Push him back
00:53:43Push him back
00:53:44That is correct
00:53:45That's how he won
00:53:46The majority of the first
00:53:47But Casemayor
00:53:49Landing
00:53:50Right now he's stronger
00:53:51He's crisp
00:53:52His punches are smoother
00:53:54Break, break, break
00:53:56Freitas really looks weathered now
00:54:00Another good combination
00:54:02By Casemayor
00:54:05Body shot by Freitas
00:54:07Casemayor stays right with Freitas
00:54:10Toe to toe
00:54:13Good body shot with the left hand
00:54:15By Casemayor
00:54:18Oh has he turned this fight around
00:54:20Joe Casemayor
00:54:21A straight left hand
00:54:22He knocked out
00:54:24In the point deduction
00:54:24I have this fight
00:54:26Three point difference right now
00:54:28And if he wins the next three rounds
00:54:2910, 11, 12
00:54:30It would be a draw
00:54:31Which I'd really hate to see
00:54:36Tony Lopez
00:54:37There's Bryan Campbell 1991
00:54:39With two belts in this division
00:54:40Caught to a draw
00:54:42Would that be something
00:54:44If it happened again
00:54:56Terrific action fight
00:54:59Freitas controlling the first part of the fight
00:55:01Casemayor in the second
00:55:03You notice now Freitas' punches
00:55:05Are one and two at a time
00:55:06That's it
00:55:06He's not really got the combination
00:55:08Stamina in him
00:55:17Freitas loading up
00:55:20This is the part of the fight
00:55:21I thought would be the most critical
00:55:23For Freitas
00:55:23As well as for Casemayor
00:55:26Conditioning
00:55:27And landing
00:55:29As mentioned
00:55:30Freitas
00:55:30Has never been past 10
00:55:33When you're tired
00:55:34Your accuracy factor
00:55:35Your accuracy factor goes way down
00:55:36Casemayor has gone 10
00:55:3810 times
00:55:40So this is uncharted territory
00:55:42For Freitas
00:55:43Nice right hand by Freitas
00:55:57Casemayor taking his time
00:55:59Being very deliberate
00:56:00Body shot by Freitas
00:56:02Another beautiful body shot
00:56:04You see a Brooklyn customer just reached
00:56:07We approach 20 seconds remaining of the 10th
00:56:11Casemayor fading a little bit in his raft
00:56:13Freitas coming out a little bit
00:56:14Freitas gaining his second win
00:56:16The cuts are under control for Freitas
00:56:19Again Freitas to the body with the left
00:56:27Digging to the midsection of Casemayor
00:56:30Good recovery by Freitas

00:57:31The championship rounds
00:57:33Round 11
00:57:36Kratis with a sweeping
00:57:37Left hook to the head
00:57:38Kratis recovering
00:57:39In the end of that last round
00:57:41I was just going to say
00:57:41Let's see if you can keep
00:57:42The momentum you had
00:57:43Going from the end
00:57:44Of that last round
00:57:44Hard to tell
00:57:48How do you have it now
00:57:49Heading into the 11th?
00:57:50I have it
00:57:5195-93
00:57:52Five rounds to four
00:57:53One even
00:57:54But that extra point
00:57:56Knockdown and the deduction
00:57:58Makes it two points
00:57:59For Kratis
00:58:05Those two points were critical
00:58:09This is nothing new
00:58:10To Cosmayor
00:58:13He has struggled a bit
00:58:15In the past
00:58:16Not often
00:58:17Early on in fights
00:58:19And then come on to win
00:58:20Something in the last round
00:58:21That Kratis started doing
00:58:22Long to the body
00:58:23Becoming very successful
00:58:24Suddenly he got away
00:58:25From the middle rounds
00:58:26And started losing
00:58:28A minute gone by
00:58:30The 11th
00:58:35Kratis looking very worried
00:58:39Being kept at bay
00:58:40By that jab
00:58:41By Cosmayor
00:58:43The right jab
00:58:48Let's see if it sets up
00:58:49His power punch
00:58:50That fixed straight left
00:58:55Kratis
00:58:55Kratis pissing
00:58:56With the right hand
00:58:59Kratis not coming forward
00:59:02Nobody's made their mark
00:59:03On this round yet
00:59:03With any real significant
00:59:04Slight edge
00:59:05The Cosmayor maybe
00:59:06Nobody's really made the move
00:59:09Kratis just walked into a right
00:59:12Kratis turned southpaw
00:59:14For a little bit
00:59:16Just for a split second
00:59:20Now Cosmayor coming forward
00:59:23He's dictating
00:59:25Left hand
00:59:26Across the chain
00:59:27By Cosmayor
00:59:28And then he missed
00:59:29With that other leg
00:59:30Kratis ducking punches
00:59:31Pretty well there
00:59:32For a tired man
00:59:36Conditioning
00:59:37Playing a big role
00:59:38Here now
00:59:38For Kratis
00:59:39In the 11th round
00:59:40For the first time ever
00:59:43Kratis
00:59:43Kratis
00:59:43Kratis
00:59:44Kratis
00:59:47Kratis
00:59:48Cosmayor coming up short
00:59:50With the jab
00:59:53Kratis
00:59:58Kratis playing it safe
01:00:01Oh a left hand
01:00:02To the job
01:00:03By Cosmayor
01:00:04That's what happens
01:00:05On the play stage
01:00:05Steve
01:00:05You're walking
01:00:06To something
01:00:06Not expected
01:00:07Do what got you
01:00:08Keep doing
01:00:09With making you win
01:00:10Kratis needs to be
01:00:11More aggressive
01:00:12Step up the pace
01:00:13Here
01:00:13He has to push
01:00:14Cosmayor back
01:00:18Final 10 seconds
01:00:19Of the 11th
01:00:22Another good round
01:00:23For Cosmayor
01:00:24And finishes strong
01:00:25With a left hook
01:00:26To the head
01:00:36Okay
01:00:37Ultimo round
01:00:39Hey
01:00:39You gotta
01:00:40Pongo a
01:00:40El
01:00:41El
01:00:41El
01:00:42El
01:00:42El
01:00:42El
01:00:42El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:43El
01:00:44Put him down
01:00:44You have to
01:00:46Lock him down
01:00:46You have to
01:00:47Lock him down
01:00:49You gotta put him down
01:00:50You gotta put him down
01:00:50Do you understand
01:00:56He's not as strong
01:00:57As you think
01:00:58Now
01:00:58You gotta go
01:01:03One more round
01:01:07What's happening
01:01:09What's happening
01:01:10My man
01:01:11He can't do anymore
01:01:12You got to win this fight
01:01:16This is your day
01:01:17You gotta win it
01:01:18Now he doesn't have any more power
01:01:21You gotta go
01:01:22Forward
01:01:23You gotta stay fighting
01:01:25Fight him
01:01:30There we go
01:01:32They dropped the body
01:01:33Round
01:01:33They touched
01:01:34Gloves
01:01:41This round could very well
01:01:42Decide the outcome
01:01:43Of this fight
01:01:44I have it
01:01:45104-103 right now
01:01:46For Freitas
01:01:47This round
01:01:48Is used for both fighters
01:01:54Casamero's corner
01:01:55You heard him saying
01:01:56You gotta drop him
01:01:56You gotta knock him down
01:01:58And there's a left hand
01:01:59By Casamero
01:02:00Into the head
01:02:00Of Freitas
01:02:01A straight left hand
01:02:02By Casamero
01:02:03Into the head
01:02:03That was very
01:02:04That's maybe his best left hand
01:02:05And Freitas
01:02:06He stood it well
01:02:07Casamero
01:02:09Who is probably behind
01:02:11On points
01:02:12Looking for the
01:02:14Dramatic knockout
01:02:15Here of the 12th
01:02:20Combination to head
01:02:21By Freitas
01:02:21Nice four punch combination
01:02:23Here's a follow up
01:02:23But another one too
01:02:25Freitas showing
01:02:25He's got something left
01:02:26Oh
01:02:27Swinging
01:02:28Wow
01:02:30He had home run written
01:02:31On that one Steve
01:02:33We're going
01:02:35We're going
01:02:39In the last round
01:02:40It could be that
01:02:41Freitas
01:02:41Thinking he was
01:02:42A head on points
01:02:43Was coasting
01:02:44And trying to stay away
01:02:45From Casamero
01:02:47But now
01:02:48It's a different story
01:02:51Casamero
01:02:52With a straight left
01:02:52Left with the right eye
01:02:53Of Freitas
01:02:55Casamero
01:02:56Going for the finish
01:02:58He's got a good job
01:02:59Freitas
01:03:00To have Casamero
01:03:01On
01:03:18A straight left hand
01:03:19Casamero
01:03:20To the head
01:03:21He hurt there

01:03:33Two 130 pound titles
01:03:35It's been a great fight
01:03:37What a difference
01:03:38Just one minute can make
01:03:40Here it is

01:03:47Pour it out
01:03:51We don't know
01:03:53What the scorecards say
01:03:54But it looks like
01:03:55Freitas may be ahead
01:04:0425 seconds to go
01:04:05Could be even too

01:04:48Sorry, man.
01:04:50Great job.
01:04:51Great job.
01:04:53Great job.
01:04:53Great job.
01:04:54Good.
01:04:55Good.
01:04:56Well done.
01:04:57Yeah.
01:04:58Okay.
01:04:59Okay.
01:05:00Okay.
01:05:04Goose's work.
01:05:05For Caso-Mayor, you get it.
01:05:08Well, you know, they were telling me, you got to knock them down.
01:05:11You got to dominate this round.
01:05:12If you're going to win this fight, they may have felt the same thing.
01:05:14Caso-Norke gave away a lot of the rounds, couldn't deal with Freitas to.
01:05:17I had this fight.
01:05:18Six rounds for five and one even.
01:05:21For Caso-Mayor.
01:05:22But with the point knockdown, it's 113-113, I have this fight to draw.
01:05:27Have it at draw.
01:05:27I'm happy to draw. And I hate draws.
01:05:31Well, don't we all? Especially in a fight of this magnitude, when you want a winner.
01:05:37You want real closure.
01:05:39One knockdown of the fight. It was disputed. Freitas put Paso Mayor down.
01:05:45One count of round three.
01:05:48But it certainly wasn't a clean knockdown, and Paso Mayor wasn't hurt.
01:05:54Rough house tactics throughout, and now they can finally get together and smile.
01:06:01They embrace a lot of bad blood, a lot of trash talk prior to the fight between the two fighters.
01:06:09Now, of course, a different story.
01:06:13Indiana, the wife of Marcelino.
01:06:17They think, oh, what?
01:06:21Well, this one's just too close to call, Bob.
01:06:24He built up an early lead, Steve. Paso Mayor was being outworked in the place.
01:06:27He saw Presto scoring, too. Some of the guys had a shutout early.
01:06:30I had one round there in the first four for Paso Mayor.
01:06:33We're going to see.
01:06:34I don't think there could be an argument if Freitas is called the winner,
01:06:37if Paso Mayor is called the winner, or it's a draw.
01:06:40I agree with you.
01:06:50Crucial call here. Here's the knockdown, which was sort of a slip with a half a punch.
01:06:54There's a slip and a punch.
01:06:56It appeared that he was punching as the man was already on his way to the floor.
01:06:59Very tough call, especially from the angle that Joe Cortez might have been watching from.
01:07:06Round six, a point deduction. Also huge in a fight this tough and this close.
01:07:10Paso Mayor is coming back, doing well in this round.
01:07:12Winning the round, and he hits on the break.
01:07:14Automatic point deduction when Joe Cortez says it is.
01:07:18And now he can't win that round because the point is taken away.
01:07:21Not a smart move.
01:07:23Could really come back to home.
01:07:28Well, the waiting is now over, we understand.
01:07:31Let's get it up to Jimmy Lennon Jr. with the decision.
01:07:36Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of action, the judges are in agreement.
01:07:41We have a unanimous decision.
01:07:45All three judges score the bout exactly the same, 114 to 112.
01:07:52All three in favor of the winner.
01:07:55He is still undefeated.
01:07:57And now the WBA and the WBO 130-pound champion,
01:08:05Asilino Popo Freitas.
01:08:15He's still undefeated.
01:08:18He's still undefeated.
01:08:20He's still undefeated.
01:08:43They are dancing in the streets of Salvador Patel as possibly all makes a quick and hasty exit.
01:08:51He was actually running. I didn't know he had that much energy left.
01:08:55That's the fastest he looked all night.
01:08:59Unanimous decision.
01:09:00Ocelino Freitas, 1.13, 1.12. All three judges set up the same.
01:09:07And according to the judges at ringside, Casa Maior have to win the final two rounds to get.
01:09:12The decision as the Brazilian fans celebrate.
01:09:15And you can see the emotion now building on the face of Freitas.
01:09:24The poverty from hunger to a unified world champion.
01:09:42The knockdown and the point deduction made all the difference.
01:09:46That does equal those two blitzes.
01:09:50That's what's in it.
01:09:53Some bad judgment there by Joel Casa Maior in terms of the roughhouse tactics and it really cost them critically.
01:10:10So this is the way the ringside judges saw all three in agreement.
01:10:14All three from Las Vegas, Robert Burr, Bill Graham, and Dave Moretti saw 114 to 112 in favor of Freitas.
01:10:23Our dock commers from press row.
01:10:25Pedro Fernandez had Freitas ahead, just like the judges.
01:10:28114, 1.12.
01:10:30Flat top had Freitas up 114, 1.12.
01:10:33And the only differing view was Steve Kim.
01:10:37114, 1.12 for Casa Maior.
01:10:39So a split decision in terms of press row.
01:10:41And the on-line scorers saw it like this.
01:10:44Freitas winning it eight rounds to four.
01:10:48So most everybody was in agreement here tonight.
01:10:52Jim Gray is standing by with the unified WBO, WBA 100%.
01:10:58All right, thank you very much, Steve.
01:11:00Asilino, congratulations to you.
01:11:02We will have Francisco in Portuguese translate for us.
01:11:06Muy bueno.
01:11:12I dedicate this fight to all the Americans.
01:11:15Say it again, please, Francisco.
01:11:17I dedicate this fight to all Americans.
01:11:21That's very nice of you.
01:11:23Asilino, he had said, Casa Maior, before this fight, this would be his easiest fight of his career.
01:11:28You both came in undefeated.
01:11:30I guess, did that serve to give you motivation to show him otherwise?
01:11:34Were you annoyed by those comments?
01:11:36Usted acreditaba que esta luta como a esa cara ya sea muito buena para vos y para él también?
01:11:42SĂ, yo treine mucho para esta pelea.
01:11:45Yo fiquei dos meses...
01:11:47I was trained very hard.
01:11:48In two months, I concentrated very much.
01:11:53In this fight tonight, it seemed as though in the early rounds, you got control of this fight.
01:11:58You got off really good.
01:12:00And he had to struggle the rest of the fight to come back.
01:12:03Did you feel as though you were fading until that twelfth round?
01:12:06Nesta luta, vocĂȘ começou muito bom.
01:12:09Pegou ele, bateu nele sempre.
01:12:22So, I hit four points on my mind, and then I decided to fight him very hard so I can
01:12:28win this.
01:12:29What were the four points?
01:12:31Quatro pontos, que falta?
01:12:33Eh...
01:12:34La cabezada y la queda.
01:12:37When he hit me on the head, I thought that I was going to get at least four points from
01:12:42the stitches.
01:12:44Were you concerned about the roughhouse tactics you have studied Casa Maior for a long time?
01:12:49Were you concerned when he got behind, that he would headbutt, hit you in the back of the head, and
01:12:53some of the things that transpired?
01:12:55Josef ficou preocupado quando ele pegou vocĂȘ atrĂĄs da cabeça, e cortou-se na cara.
01:13:01No, eu sabia que o jefe ia sacar pontos.
01:13:05I knew that I was going to win him in points.
01:13:08Ace Lino, there had been many instances, twice, that you postponed this fight.
01:13:12That was interpreted by Casa Maior as you ducking him.
01:13:16It now seems much more legitimate to the public.
01:13:20Was it your strategy just to buy some more time until you were ready?
01:13:40Everything in life is a time and a place.
01:13:43I was waiting for that moment.
01:13:45Would he like to unify the title?
01:13:47Essa noite eu nĂŁo ganhei sĂł um tĂtulo mundial.
01:13:49Eu ganhei também uma medalha.
01:13:50Tell us in English, you understood the question, say it in English.
01:13:53Do you want to unify the title?
01:13:54OlimpĂque game, you, my OlimpĂque game is Barcelona, Casa Maior.
01:14:01Your OlimpĂque games is tonight, I understood that.
01:14:03Would you now like to unify the title?
01:14:05Two champions, WBA, WBA, OlimpĂque games, Casa Maior.
01:14:10Thank you very much.
01:14:11I want to unify the title of the council and federação.
01:14:16And I want to send a shout out to Coachella.
01:14:19I want to send a shout out to Coachella.
01:14:23Okay.
01:14:24Congratulations to you and all the people back in Brazil rooting for you and across the country.
01:14:27Thank you very much.
01:14:28A family Oscar SuĂĄrez, my trainer, Ulises Pereira.
01:14:31Oscar SuĂĄrez.
01:14:35All right.
01:14:37We attempted to talk to Joel Casa Maior.
01:14:39He has left the ring and gone back into his locker room.
01:14:41We will continue to make the attempt.
01:14:42But as of now, Steve, he's refusing to talk to anybody.
01:14:45Joel Casa Maior, the loser of tonight's fight.
01:14:47So it's puncher over boxer.
01:14:50Ocelino Freitas unifies the two titles.
01:14:52Hands for his first defeat.
01:14:53The Brazilian contingent continues to celebrate.
01:14:59Freitas remains unbeaten, lifting his record to 31-0.
01:15:03His seventh successful defense of the WBO belt as he adds a second.
01:15:08Looking ahead, let's see what boxing coverage is coming up in the near future.
01:15:13Right here on Showtime.

01:16:28The Brazilians still exult here at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
01:16:34And yes, as we just heard, the fights are breaking out everywhere here on Showtime over the next couple of
01:16:39weeks.
01:16:39We saw a terrific fight here tonight between Ocelino Freitas and Joel Casamaior.
01:16:45And judging by tonight's performance, Bobby, does Ocelino Freitas now go up to superstar status?
01:16:53No, I really don't think so.
01:16:55Two or three things really started to bother me about the fight.
01:16:57I thought that the point for the knockdown, which is a two-point swing, and the dirty tactics was just
01:17:03a mistake by Casamaior.
01:17:04Flipped them both, and Casamaior wins the fight by a pointer.
01:17:07All right.
01:17:07So I think it's still, I think it's not been settled.
01:17:10How would he do with Steve Forbes, the IBF champ?
01:17:12Uh, I think he beats four of these too strong.
01:17:15All right.
01:17:15Let's take a look at our, that'll do it for another edition of Showtime Championship Boxing.
01:17:22For Bobby Chez, Jim Gray, our entire crew, Steve Albert saying so long.
